Snowpiercer Episode 6 Review – Season 1
The episode begins with the narration of Brakeman Osweiller simultaneously, something is occurring on the Train that seems minor but will lead the almost death of all the passengers of the Train.
As Andre Layton recuperates, his body trying to reverse what the Drawers did to him, there is an uprising in the Third Class. They are angry at the acquittal of Lila Junior for the death of Nikki and plan to go on a strike demonstration. Melanie Cavill, stressed at the ongoing situations, goes to the Third Class and makes an announcement. She gives them an ultimatum should the strike continue and leaves them in fear.
Brakeman Osweiller also has something on Bess Till and does what we would all expect of him. Blackmails her with it in a way most of us won’t see coming. As Andre recuperates, he gets into an argument with Zara but Josie soon appears and takes him away, to someone else who’s on their side and is in second class.
Their helper, a doctor who works with Dr. Klimpt in the drawers, helps Andre and tells them something that shocks all of us. This secret is one of the reasons why Lila Junior was not acquitted and all who are privy to it are in grave danger. Before Josie had sent Andre to the doctor also, Andre had revealed to Josie a secret that led to him being “drawered”. He makes Josie promise not to tell anyone on the Train. Not even the Tail.
In the Tail also, one of the Tailies die and her children are devastated. To bring some cheer to them, two of the Tailies undergo a mission to bring something to the kids. Something they haven’t seen since they were locked up in the Tail. Their mission is almost compromised and the result is heart-warming. Zarah and Astrid discuss Zarah’s struggle to get of the Tail and here, a revelation is made that is sure to cause problems for Zarah, Andre and possibly the Third Class as well.
All this suspense doesn’t end. Melanie takes an extra interest in Miles, Andre’s son and remember what occurred in the beginning of the episode that we said would affect the whole train? It happens. There is an electrical fault and one of the hydraulics underneath the train is removed from its socket. Only one person is qualified enough to go beneath the Train, in the cold, to repair it and time is not on their side as the Train is on the verge of derailing.
Andre runs out of the room he’s being treated in and steals the lock he gave Josie. He intercepts Melanie Cavill and tries to kill her before he is silenced forever. Melanie tries to explain why she did what she did in hopes that Andre will let her go.
The suspense does not end there. Andre does let her go but too much time has been wasted. This is where viewers will see the true extent of Melanie’s knowledge and expertise. She sacrifices herself, risking death to save every single member of the Train and here, even viewers who hate her would appreciate what she does.
After the traumatic experience they go through, Brakeman Osweiller opens up a side of himself to Bess Till and decides to not blackmail her anymore. All the members of the train spend time with their loved ones after facing death. Dr. Pelton gives Andre a place to stay for the meanwhile and Josie stays with him.
The episode ends with a much needed passionate release.
